Columbia Academy Celebrates Constitution Day

Every year, Constitution Day is one of Dr. Oliver's favorite days on the school calendar, and this year was no exception. Constitution Day commemorates September 17, 1787, the day delegates signed the United States Constitution in Philadelphia, establishing the framework of laws and the federal government that still guides our nation today.

While many of us think of July 4th as the day our nation was born, Constitution Day marks something just as important: the moment our system of government took shape. The Constitution laid out the balance of powers, protections, and structure that continue to shape American life more than two centuries later.

As part of the day's reflection, we shared this quote from Thomas Jefferson: "In questions of power, let no more be said of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." It's a powerful reminder of why our founders believed so strongly in a government bound by law rather than by the will of any single person.

We're grateful for teachers like Dr. Oliver who bring history to life for our students and help them understand not just what happened in 1787, but why it still matters today. Thank you to everyone who took a moment to reflect on this important piece of our nation's story.
